What is Feng Shui?

"Feng Shui is one-third common sense,
one-third good design;
the last third consists
of ancient knowledge and traditions,
enhancements and cures that may seem
odd to us ... but they work!?"
"Feng Shui ("fung schway")
- translated as wind and water -
is the ancient Chinese
philosophy, science and art that studies the way that life
energy
(Ch'i) flows throughout the
environment and the spaces that we inhabit. Experience has
shown that by creating balanced and
harmonious places in which to live and work in,
the quality of our lives can be greatly
enhanced"
Feng Shui is a system of balancing energy
that
dates back at least 5000 years. It
incorporates many aspects
based on Taoist philosophies of nature; the Yin-Yang theory,
the Five Elements theory, the trigrams
of the I-Ching (the ancient Chinese book of knowledge),
as well as Chinese astrology and traditional
medicine.

Why are we interested in Feng Shui?:
"Feng Shui gives us another method of
dealing
with our life issues." James Jay
In our fast paced existence, it is easy for us to become
unbalanced
and adversely affected by the world
around us. By using Feng Shui and heightening our
awareness
of the energy that surrounds us, it is
possible to change our environment to improve our luck,
health,
wealth, friendships and love life.
Feng Shui is not a "fix all", but rather a catalyst for us
to
take control and responsibility for our lives
and well being. We can use the principles of Feng Shui
to analyse our spaces and apply remedies and
"cures" to direct and improve the flow of Ch'i. We
have
personally witnessed that many people who have
incorporated Feng Shui into their lives have experienced
profound
and positive changes. It is hard to
predict how Feng Shui will manifest itself or know why
some people see results more quickly than others;
there are no guarantees, but remember ... "help
comes cloaked in many different disguises".
Feng Shui Schools:
There are many schools of Feng Shui that exist and are
practised
today. Although they
may seem to be conflicting, they all share three
main
goals:
- to encourage the flow of vital energy
(Ch'i)
in
our living and working environments.
- to deflect negative energy (sha Ch'i).
- to create balance in
our
spaces using the five aspects of
nature;
Fire,
Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.
We, at Wind and Water Designs, study and follow the
principles
of Black Hat Sect (BTB) Feng Shui
as taught by Professor Lin Yun. Professor
Lin's
BTB Feng Shui is a multi-discipline approach. His
Feng Shui theories and practises incorporate contemporary
sciences
and such Western knowledge
as medicine, physiology, psychology, ecology, architecture,
interior design and colour theory with
traditional knowledge, yin-yang theory and five elements
knowledge.
The concept of using
transcendental solutions to cure problems makes this type of
Feng Shui very powerful and
effective. It is important to note that BTB Feng Shui
is not a religion or style of design;
the goal is to enhance your personal style and taste.
Black Hat Sect (BTB) Feng Shui:
(The following is from "Spirituality and Feng
Shui"
by Crystal Chu)
"Black Hat Sect Tantric Buddhist
(BTB)Feng
Shui, as taught by
Master Lin Yun, includes three features that are unique and
different from all
other traditional Feng Shui approaches:the incorporation of
contemporary science
and Western knowledge, the concept of visible and invisible
elements, and the use
of transcendental cures and blessings ...
Since ancient times, humans have found ways to harmonize
themselves
with nature, the universe,
and their living and working environments. Over
time,
their experiences, wisdom and knowledge
were systematically incorporated into a body of
knowledge
called Feng Shui ...
Due to the vast distances in ancient China and the lack of
communication
between territories,
many different schools of Feng Shui developed. They
were
based on similar universal knowledge
but developed different approaches and techniques.
Traditional schools of Feng Shui are based on
the cardinal pointsof the compass combined with the
topography
of the land and building layout.
They place more emphasison the visible elements, concepts
you
can see. Professor Lin Yun developed
and created his own schoolof Feng Shui, which uses similar
conventional,
visible approaches and also
incorporates the invisible or transcendental /
spiritual
aspect."
The Black Sect Ba-gua Map
The Ba-Gua is an energy map based on the
concepts
of Yin-Yang,
the Eight Trigrams of the I-Ching and the
theory
of the Five Elements.
It is a mystical representation of all of
the
various
combinations of Yin-Yang energy.
